In the year 2165, the world is still healing from a war that ended a century ago. 

The War of the Magical and Mortal began when the heir to the Shade throne, realizing his immortal father will never give him the power he desires, crossed the barrier between realms and found Earth. He saw magical beings hiding in plain sight amongst the humans, and lifted every single glamour all at once, inciting chaos. 

The War ended when a Witch sealed the barrier with a Veil, sacrificing herself in the process. For the next century, ten Witches are marked by the Veil to endure the Trials, to find the next Binder who will strengthen the Veil to keep the Shades barred from their realm.

The darkness beyond the Veil is not sleeping. 

It is watching.

And it knows my name.
